Many individual retirees volunteer giving their time and energy to organizations/charities from Mayo Clinic, to 125 Live (Senior Center), to Channel One Food Bank, to local schools and churches, and many others, in and around the Rochester area. As a club, we want to be good community citizens also, so we have several club activities that provide a service to the community. As a club we have adopted the four functions/charities highlighted below:
Adopt A Highway: Three times a year (spring, summer, and fall) a group of club members puts on their fashionable hi-visibility orange vests, grabs a few garbage bags, and heads for the ditches to help keep Minnesota beautiful. This year we are cleaning up a 2-mile stretch of County Road 3 just north of Douglas. The dates for 2020 are to be determined. With the COVID-19 pandemic there is a chance we will not be participating in this volunteer effort this summer.
United Way of
Olmsted County: In addition to our individual
contributions, the club helps the United Way by
stuffing envelopes, helping with mailings, and encouraging consistent
giving by all retirees.
The UW Volunteer Center has been active in the greater Rochester area since 1982. The Volunteer Center maintains a master list of volunteer opportunities available in the five county area around Rochester. We support United Way's mission to connect people with meaningful volunteer experiences based on human and social needs of our community. Dial 2-1-1 First Call For Help became a regional hub of First Call Minnesota for eight counties. Dial 2-1-1 currently supports: Dodge, Freeborn, Goodhue, Mower, Olmsted, Rice, Steele, and Wabasha counties in Minnesota. As a 2-1-1 SE Minnesota Regional 2-1-1 Hub, our priority is to maintain the integrity of 1,600+ agencies and 3,500+ programs in our database so we can connect people who need assistance with services these agencies provide.
If interested in volunteering for a community service and coordinating the Rochester IBM Alumni Club's involvement in this service you can contact the IBM Alumni Club at 507-288-3663 x-120 or send an email to email@example.com.
Thank you in advance for volunteering.
